It was almost three years ago the last time I did any photos of Emlyn. At the time, she was a sophomore in high school and needed a new headshot. Now she’s a freshman at Georgetown University. I hear she’s having a great time, but I bet she misses Pippi.

I had a delightful afternoon way out in Salisbury (yes, that’s way out for this city girl) with Leslie Wiles and her collie, Tess. Tess is a rescue dog, and was in quite a bad way when Leslie got to her. But she’s turned out to be the one who does rescuing – or at least does the comforting. She’s now a therapy dog and works with terminally ill patients. She’s an exceptional dog, but she’s getting up there in years, and Leslie wanted to be sure to get some photos that show what a special relationship they have. This was one of my favorites.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation – Part I

Our friend Tracy Coogle’s mother owns this terrific house in Rodanthe, NC. Tracy invited Ginnie and me down there last October and we absolutely fell in love with the place. So when we were planning our summer vacation, I talked to Tracy about renting it for two weeks and were lucky to find out that the weeks we wanted were free!

We left for the Outer Banks on Sunday, and it was pure heaven! For two and a half days. Then Hurricane Earl showed up and we got the mandatory evacuation notice on Wednesday. Thanks a lot, Earl! Since we were traveling with four dogs, we beat feet out of there right away. We’re back in Richmond now, glued to the Weather Channel waiting for the all clear. Seemed like a good chance to post a few of the photos that I got during those first couple of days.

This was the view from the upper deck when I woke up the first morning. You can see why I’m so anxious to get back!

The 365 Project

Last year, my friend Pam challenged me to post one photo on Facebook every day. I think she meant for a month, but as is my nature, I took it to extremes and said I would do it every day for a year! I’m WAY BEHIND! However, a number of people have asked me about buying prints, and I’ve recently figured out how to do it from my website. So here are some of them.

(There are options for buying prints on other pages as well. The prints won’t come with the border or my website on them, and the sizes might not be exact. Square cards will definitely be cropped on cards. I haven’t tested this out yet, so keep your fingers crossed!)

A Respite from the Cold

I got up at 4:30am last Sunday to make my 6:55 flight to Fort Myers. I really hate those early flights.
Sunrise at the beach is a beautiful thing. Sunrise at the airport, I can do without.

I changed my tune when I landed in the Sunshine State, which was at a balmy 73 degrees. This was taken from the dock behind my mom’s boyfriend’s house. I was bummed that I didn’t see any manatees. They apparently swim back there quite often.

And this is Mom and Shelby. (Mom’s probably going to hate this picture)

My Mom’s boyfriend Ethan has a great dog named Chance. I always miss my dogs when I’m gone, so I was really glad to have some K9 company.

Shelby is my 2nd favorite yorkie. (And in case my friends are wondering, she does have two eyes.)

My grandparents live in this great retirement community in Bonita Springs. There is so much going on there all the time. There are swimming pools, hot tubs (you know I visited the hot tub!), shuffle board, pool tournaments, dinners, dancing, karaoke, field trips, variety shows, and tons more! Mom and Ethan played pool while Gram and I went to Bingo. Poppy is one of the callers.

Picking out your cards is serious business at Bingo. Actually, they take their Bingo VERY seriously. I thought a few of those old broads were going to kill my grandfather during one of the games. And you should see how FAST they get out of there when it’s all over. Don’t let those walkers fool you. Those gals can MOVE!

The biggest event is the softball tournament. Poppy’s team won both games while I was there. Go Poppy!

It was great seeing my family, even if for just a couple days. Love you, Gram!

And it was really nice to be warm!!!

On a whim, I entered this photo of Piper in a contest for Nashville Paw, a pet magazine in… well, Nashville.
She didn’t win, but she did get an honorable mention and her picture in the magazine. She’s thrilled. Can you tell?

I’m so far behind on this, it’s just crazy! Up until last weekend, the musical Annie was playing at Theatre IV. I spent one rather cold morning in April taking headshots for a bunch of the orphans.

Snow Day

I’m not usually excited by snow. I really don’t like the cold. But it’s been about nine years since we’ve actually had any of the white stuff, so I decided enjoy it. The dogs enjoyed it, too!

Even Alice, who usually HATES to be wet!

And here’s our cute little cottage in the snow.
