Ginnie and I went up to visit my mom over the summer and decided that since we were only about 40 minutes from Atlantic City that it might be fun to go to the casinos. So we all drove down and parked in the first parking deck we could find, which happened to be at the Hilton. As we crossed over into the casino, we saw this poster.
I couldn’t believe my eyes – Debbie Reynolds!!! My first love! (I saw “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” when I was about six years old and obsessed over Debbie for many years to follow. – Okay, I still do!) Ginnie’s first thought was “well, I guess we’re going to have to come back,” but then to our delight, we realized that we were there on her opening night! She was amazing! Even Joan enjoyed it (Ginnie talked her into it by telling her how bawdy Debbie is – we weren’t disappointed). She (Debbie, not Joan) sang songs from her movies, told stories about Eddie Fisher, did great impressions of Barbra Streisand and Zsa Zsa Gabor, and showed clips from some of her films. She also had a section in the show that featured some great bloopers from other famous Hollywood movies that can be seen in her new film museum at Belle Island Village in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. I feel a road trip comin’ on! Anyway, this has nothing to do with photography, but I did take some pics, most of which were completely awful. This one was at least somewhat in focus.
